Is everyone humming along to the Five Man Electrical Band? I know Kevin is!
Below, a collection of some of my favourite signs from the past month:
Barry Hatton contends that there is a shard of anarchy in the heart of all Portuguese. A recent Portugal president complained that his countryman treated laws as rough guidelines, to be ignored at will. Certainly the driver of the car below fits into this stereotype.
The rules governing RV/van camping are remarkably relaxed in Portugal. Vans park overnight in villages, in beach parking lots, and at scenic overlooks. I’ve only seen one sign forbidding overnight camping —and someone clearly objected to the prohibition.
There are lots of properties for sale here, especially in the countryside — some more appealing than others!
This sign post was in Burgau. Erected by an Alpine World Cup fan perhaps?
For a period on the Fisherman’s Trail, I was following a jazz fan. Previous sign posts celebrated Chet Baker and Thelonious Monk.
I think the ‘sign’ below was likely created with good intentions, but it creeped me out a bit.
Finally I can’t decide if this is my favourite or least favourite sign. It means I’ve made it to the finish of the trail— but I don’t want it to end!
Amazingly this photo was taken by Diane Volkers! She and Noel and I ended up in Porto Covo as they were starting the Fisherman’s Trail and I was ending. We shared dinner, a bottle of wine, some good laughs over various travel mishaps, and a sunset. A great way to end my trek!
I still have several days here in Portugal, so more post to come (if you can bear it!)
